Black History Month

Black History month is an opportunity to reflect, honor, celebrate and educate ourselves, on African American History. Though I spend many nights painting alone in my home, I’m often reminded that I am not alone in my work or my reason. My reality; personally and professionally, is a product of my ancestors prayers, protest, cries, sacrifice, dreams and so much more! Without the great African American leaders, teachers, activists and creators that came before me; there would be no space to dream, no hope to inspire, and there would be no art business for a little black girl to even imagine. With wisdom, courage, creativity, perseverance, tenacity, and unity our leaders were able to drive our oppressed people forward; and eventually birth and raise my generation of black creatives, black leaders, business owners and educators. As an African American artist I have a responsibility to use every vehicle I have access to, to continue to drive our people forward. By way of the creative arts I join and continue the work of my ancestors; in liberating our people; mentally, emotionally, financially and creatively.

My artwork is the celebration, elevation, and empowering of black culture. As we get ready to close the month out, I thought it was a great time to share some past/present work inspired by African American History.
