The Big Move

Hey y’all, omg I’ve missed y’all so much! Let me catch y’all up on what’s been going on. First off if you haven't heard already, I have a new art studio!!! Wooohoooo!! My husband and I closed on our home a couple of months ago, and let me tell y’all this unfinished laundry room sold it for me. It doesn’t look like much right now; dingy concrete walls, exposed ceiling beams, dusty, etc. but its a decent size and has endless potential! This room is the future birthing place of some of my greatest paintings; all it needs is extra lighting, my personal touch and a maybe a heater for Chicago winters. It was very important for me to have a safe space to create, but probably more important to establish boundaries; by physically detaching my professional life from my personal life. Overtime the two were conveniently intertwined…it was about time I break them up. Space (or lack their of) never stopped me from producing quality work, but my entire household will benefit from me having a designated art space. In the past I’ve took over bedrooms, kitchens, living room etc painting by any means, and my family has been nothing but supportive; but now they can rightfully claim those spaces again (for now).

To finish or not to finish?

My initial plans for this space is simple; clean it, paint the concrete (white), lay foam mats on the floor, add extra lighting, organize materials, add seating, set up work station….and get to work!! I won’t invest a ton of money on floor installation, because I’m sure to ruin them; but will definitely add proper support for my feet. The “laundry” table will be used as a cutting/craft table. I do plan on finishing the space with dry wall at some point, but a quick DIY will do for now!

Its crazy to think how far I’ve come but I can’t exactly say I dreamed this up…in facemI’ve been looking to rent studio spaces in the city for a while now. To God be the glory, I get to save my lil coins and work from home.
